Our Story

As a family-run and local business, our team has always taken pride in a job well done.

Since 1974, we’ve served our community with experience and friendly expertise which has made us a well-known name in the area. Add that to the array of services that we provide, and it’s no wonder that we’ve become known as ‘the one home for all things home’.

It is our belief that construction is beautiful, and when done well, it feels seamless. Good workmanship often gets overlooked because of how naturally it fits. It is this tradition of quality and attention to detail that started it all. In fact, we’re proud that many of our original craftspeople are still part of the team today.

Thomas originally began in 1971 as MT Builders, a custom home remodeling business. 

Over the years, we grew to add a custom cabinet shop and truss manufacturing plant, located on Giuntoli Lane in Arcata. Then, in 1984, with the purchase of Whipple’s BMC (Building Materials Center), these departments merged together in McKinleyville. You can now find home remodeling services, a hardware store, and lumber yard, all under one roof.

At the end of the day, our goal is to help each home should feel like just that – a home; a place in which to relax, refresh, and reflect personal style. Whether through a remodel, fresh trusses, a bit of advice, or simply a gallon of paint, we’re here to help you bring your idea from concept to completion.
